Topic of the day - Baby's Porridge Recipe

**Cucumber with Honey**
Cucumber is cool in nature and has properties for treating diarrhea and swelling. Honey aids digestion and is suitable for infants over one year old.
Ingredient
5 small cucumber (Japanese type)
Directions
1) Rinse cucumber and cut into 3cm long sections. Smash with the back of a knife.
2) Put in a muslin bag and squeeze out the juice. Strain juice into a pot and bring to a boil.
3) Leave to cool and then sweeten with honey.
tip: the skin of the cucumber contains some nutrients, thus it is not necessary to peel the skin, just cut off the tail ends and squeeze out the juice.

**PEACH PUREE**
Peach is a good source of fibre which helps your baby in relieving constipation
Ingredient
1 peach
Directions
1) Rinse peach, peel & cut into halves.
2) Mash the pulp using a tablespoon.
tip:carefully remove the downy skin of the peach as it tends irritate the baby's throat and induces cough.

**CARROT AND WHITE BAIT PORRIDGE**
White baits are small white fish rich in calcium and iron. Good for developing healthy bones and teeth.
Ingredients
10g carrot
1 tbsp white baits
30g rice porridge
Directions
1) Peel the carrot and chop finely
2) Wash the white baits and soak well
3) Cook the white baits in water till soft
4) Bring the rice porridge to a boil, add the carrot and the white baits
5) Remove from heat and serve

**CHICKEN PORRIDGE WITH RED DATES &/OR WOLFBERRY**
Ingredients
A small piece of chicken meat (or 2-3 tablespoon of minced chicken meat)
4-6 Red Dates
1 tablespoon of Wolfberry Veggie (carrot / spinanch etc)
Directions
1) Cook porridge adding one small piece of chicken meat (or minced chicken meat)
2) Add Carrot , Red Dates and Wolfberries

**TOFU EGG YOLK BABY PORRIDGE **
Suitable for 9 to 12 month old.
Ingredients
1/2 tub of soft tofu
1 egg
30g rice porridge
Directions
1) Mash the tofu
2) Boil the egg for about 8 minutes
3) Remove the egg shell and egg white and mash the yolk 4) Bring the rice porridge to a boil, add the mashed tofu. Mix well
5) Add the mashed egg yolk
6) Remove from heat
7) Serve

**SPINACH AND MILK PORRIDGE **
Spinach is rich in folic acid and iron
Ingredients
1 leaf of spinach
30g rice porridge
2 tbsp fresh milk
Directions
1) Rinse and parboil the spinach leaf
2) Drain and chop the spinach finely
3) Bring the porridge and milk to a boil
4) Add the spinach and cook well

Is it safe to have caffeine while I'm breastfeeding?

Yes, but don't overdo it. When caffeine enters your bloodstream, a small amount of it (usually less than 1 percent) ends up in your breast milk. Your baby's body can't easily break down and excrete caffeine, especially in the first few months of life, so over time it may accumulate in his system.

Drinking a lot of coffee (more than two or three cups day), for example, might cause one or both of you to become irritable, jittery, or agitated, and it can contribute to sleeping problems. But many experts say that moderate intake of caffeine (usually defined as no more than 300 mg per day) is fine for nursing moms, causing no changes in most babies' behavior.

That said, every baby is different. If your baby seems to be bothered when you have caffeine — even in limited amounts — you may want to cut it out of your diet for a while to see if that makes a difference.
